Joe Vieira Joseph Vieira is the Director of Outreach Department at the Illinois School for the Deaf. ISD Outreach provides information, training, and technical assistance for families, community members, and programs and services for children who are deaf or hard of hearing throughout the State of Illinois. Joseph holds the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Gallaudet University and Masters of Science in Leadership and Masters of Business Administration from Ken Blanchard School of Business at Grand Canyon University. Joseph started his career at the Illinois School for the Deaf as a recreation worker and most recently was the Transition Coordinator. Prior work experience includes being a counselor for the National Association of the Deaf Youth Leadership Camp and a Support Service Assistant for the United States Department of Veterans’ Affairs in the Office of the Inspector General. Joseph is the President of Jacksonville Area Center for Independent Living Board of Directors, President of Illinois Association of the Deaf Jacksonville chapter and a Deaf Self-Advocacy Trainer certified by the National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers. Joseph is a past member of National Association of Parliamentarians, former team member of National Association for the Deaf Youth Steering Team, past grand treasurer of Illinois School for the Deaf Alumni Association, and a Gallaudet University Alumni Association election chairman. Joseph has spent his entire life as a deaf individual advocating for the dignity of culture, language, and rights in the Deaf community.
