Selected 2015 Team of the Year by the National Deaf Interscholastic Athletics Association, this marks the eighth national championship the boys have earned since 2002. Coaches from 34 deaf schools across the nation submitted athletes' best times and distances throughout the season. Athletes earn points based on where their times and marks rank compared to other athletes. First-place individual finishers earning All-American status include Andre Murphy/100 m dash; Jordan Manges/200 and 400 m dash; Jamal Garner/110 m high hurdles, shot put and high jump (tied for first); and the 4x100 m relay team.
The top twenty-four area seniors were split into north and south squads, competing in the 2015 West Central Illinois Boys All-Star Classic. The evening also included a slam dunk competition and three-point shooting contest. ISD senior Jamal Garner, a member of the south squad, became the dunk contest champion!
We never doubted it. Congratulations, Jamal!
The junior high boys track team finished the season with boys qualifying for 4 events. CJ Pitts qualified in the 100m dash, the 800m run, and 4x100 relay with teammates Shannon McNeal, Dajour Wallace, and Jovany Carmona. McNeal also qualified for state in the shot put event.
In January, the boys basketball team, the girls basketball team, and the cheerleading squad headed to Ohio to compete with XX other schools in the annual Central States Schools for the Deaf competition. ISD brought home the gold in all three events!
